COMMITTEE CHAIRS
Arun Sandhu and Esther Lee are our Bridging the Gap leaders, and they help organize some great events for pre-dental students. This year, events will include presentations on dentistry basics, the application process, personal statement workshops, and mock-interviews. Participants are encouraged to ask mentors questions regarding the DAT, application/interview process, or any other topic they may be interested in. If you are interested in pursuing dental school, we highly encourage you to apply!
About us
UNC Bridging the Gap is an organization that pairs UNC dental school students with aspiring pre-dental students from across the state. All pre-dental students are welcome! You do not have to be an undergraduate student to join our program. Participants have the chance to get a first-hand experience on what dental school is all about thanks to generous dental school mentors who offer their free time to share their accomplishments. This program provides an opportunity for learning, meeting new people and “bridging the gap.”
How it works
Mentees from universities all across the state have an opportunity to sign up for our mentorship program each fall. We recruit UNC Dental School students who provide these mentees with a taste of what life is like as a dental school student. Mentors have been through the process of applying to dental school and can provide pre-dents with valuable knowledge and advice on how to succeed. We encourage pairs to participate in the below mentioned BTG events but to also build a relationship on their own time.

RESOURCES
Preparing for Your Application: To find information on how to prepare for your application, please see this example four-year timeline
Preparing for the DAT: Every pre-dent struggles sifting through all of the resources and deciding what study materials will work best for them; it can get very overwhelming. We’ve included basic information regarding the logistics of the exam and study tips. We’ve also surveyed the DDS classes of 2019, 2020, and 2021 at the UNC School of Dentistry to find out what worked best for them. We hope you find their insight useful!
